COCOA BEACH, Fla. - The Georgia State sand volleyball team won both of its matches Saturday by 3-2 scores. The 8-1 Panthers defeated North Florida and Jacksonville on the first day of the Ron Jon Surf Shop Beach-n-Boards Festival.
Two of Georgia State's pairs went undefeated on the day. At the third flight Katelyn Rawls and Sarah Agnew recorded two wins, as did senior Katie Madewell and graduate student Moriah Bellissimo at the fourth flight.
In the first match of the day, GSU defeated Jacksonville 3-2. The Panthers won at the second, third and fourth flights. At the second flight, Jansen Button and Sara Olivova defeated Jacksonville's Courtney and Cullen 21-17, 21-14. At the third flight, Rawls and Agnew defeated McMahon and Homrick 21-8, 21-6. At flight No. 4, Bellissimo and Madewell won 21-11, 21-11 over Roman and Laskille.
In the second match of the day, Georgia State again won 3-2, this time over UNF. At the third flight, Rawls and Agnew won 21-17, 22-20 against Strack and McGuire. At the fourth flight, Bellissimo and Madewell defeated Claessens and Garbutt 21-14, 21-18. At the fifth flight, Alexis Elmurr and Delaney Rohan won 21-10, 21-13 over Shirley and Gunn.
The Panthers will play two matches on Sunday to finish out the tournament. GSU will take on Stetson at 8 a.m. and Webber at 10 a.m.
