GSU Defeats FAU, 4-1, in Fiesta On Siesta Key

Siesta Key, Fla. - The Georgia State sand volleyball team opened up the Fiesta on Siesta Key tournament with a 4-1 win over Florida Atlantic to improve to 7-7 in the inaugural season.

The top four flights for the Panthers prevailed in two sets. No. 1 flight of Lane Carico and Katie Madewell improved their win streak to four straight matches after winning the pairs tournament at the first GSU Sand Invite. They defeated FAU's Isabelle Arboleda and Megan Evans 21-7, 21-13 on Friday.

GSU's No. 2 flight of Jansen Button and Sara Olivova also had a routine win over FAU's Alessia Pizzoccheri and Jelena Jovanic 21-17, 21-12.

The Panthers' No. 3 duo of Katelyn Rawls and Milani Pickering quickly took down Darija Sataric and Andrea Galinis 21-14, 21-15.

Alexis Elmurr and Molly Smestad, the No. 4 team, defeated FAU's Gabriella Pyle and Jennifer St. Sume 21-12, 21-17.

The only loss for the Panthers came at the No. 5 spot, with Karlee Kavanaugh and Alexis Townsend falling to Megan Knapp and Alisha Noble 21-8, 21-17.

In exhibition play, Kaitlynn Hufstetler and Nikki Senopoulos, won both of their matches against Florida Gulf Coast.

Georgia State will now move on to play in three different Pairs Tournaments for the rest of the weekend at Siesta Key with no more team match competitions Saturday or Sunday.
