Georgia State Hosts Savannah State Saturday

ATLANTA (Dec. 8, 2006) – Georgia State's women's basketball team returns to action Saturday after a five-day layoff as the Panthers host Savannah State at 2 p.m. at the Georgia State Sports Arena. The game will be broadcast live over the internet at www.wras.org and www.georgiastatesports.com and on the radio at WRAS-FM (88.5) in Atlanta.

The Panthers, who lead the all-time series 1-0, have won three of their last four games this season. With a win, Georgia State, which is 1-0 at home, will even its record at 4-4 on the year. The Tigers of Savannah State enter the contest at 4-2 with wins over Charleston Southern and Mercer.

Tuesday's contest also features head coach Lea Henry as she marches to win No. 200 at Georgia State. She is currently two wins shy of 200, holding steady at 198 victories.

A victory over Savannah State would give Georgia State back-to-back wins at home for the first time since Dec. 19 and Dec. 29 of last season. The last time the Panthers defeated an opponent by 10 or more points at home was a 71-44 triumph over Mississippi Valley State on Dec. 29, 2005.

Freshman forward Danyiell McKeller (Fayetteville, N.C.) paces State's offense, averaging 14.4 points per game. She is second in rebounding at 6.1 boards per contest. Senior guard Kelcey Roegiers-Jensen (St. Petersburg, Fla.) averages 13.9 ppg and 5.7 rebounds per outing while leading the team in assists (37). Freshman guard Tabitha David (Mableton, Ga.) is also averaging double figures in points (11.0 ppg), while shooting 41 percent from 3-point range. Sophomore center Marcquitta Head (Conley, Ga.), the reigning Colonial Athletic Association Player of the Week and owner of Georgia State's first-ever triple-double, is averaging 9.3 points and leads the Panthers with 8.0 rebounds per game.

Savannah State, which is 1-2 on the road, is lead by Ivy Smith's 19.2 points per game. Milan Johnson posts 9.5 ppg. Shaunte Carter pulls down a team-high 6.3 boards per outing and averages 9.3 points.
