ATLANTA – Looking to return to NCAA Regional play, the Georgia State women's golf team will open the 2016-17 season on Tuesday in a one-day, 36-hole tournament at Berkeley Hills Country Club in Duluth. The Louisville Fall Kick-off will be the first of six tournaments for the Panthers this fall.
This will mark the second-straight year playing in Louisville's one-day event that takes place in the Atlanta area. Last year the season-opener came at Atlanta Athletic Club in Johns Creek.
“After a good week of practice, I think everyone on the team is excited to get the season underway,” head coach Cathy Mant said. “We know that we are playing in an event with a very good field, but we also know we can set the tone for the fall by playing well. There is definitely a renewed energy and I look forward to bringing that to the course.”
Ironically, Berkeley Hills Country Club is the home for the Georgia State men's golf team and the AutoTrader.com Collegiate Classic coming up in October.
The seven-team field will utilize a 9 a.m. shotgun start on Tuesday. The field includes host Louisville, Auburn, Augusta, College of Charleston, Georgia and Vanderbilt.
Sophomore Jemima Gregson will lead the line-up which will also include seniors Solene Le Coz and Jooeun Bae, along with redshirt-sophomore Emily Royer and freshman Harmanprit Kaur.
Juniors Paula Zabarte and Yasemin Sari, along with freshman Grace Choi will compete as individuals for the Panthers.
Following this week's tournament, Georgia State will only have a few days off before heading to Mobile, Ala., for the USA Intercollegiate starting Sunday. The event is hosted by Sun Belt foe South Alabama.
