A former college player and long-time coach, Kurt Clemmons joined the Georgia State women’s tennis staff in the fall of 2013 as an assistant coach.

Clemmons came to Georgia State from the Tennis Academy of the South in Atlanta, where he was an academy coach since 2005. Previously, Clemmons was the director of juniors and an academy coach at the Racquet Club of the South, also in Atlanta, for one year. From 2002 to 2004, Clemmons was an academy coach at the Smith-Stearns Tennis Academy in Hilton Head, S.C. In 2001, he was an assistant coach at Georgia Tech under Bryan Shelton. The Lady Yellow Jackets reached the round of 32 that year in the NCAA tournament. In 2000, Clemmons began his coaching career, starting at the Billy Stearns Tennis Center in Sarasota, Fla.

He has had success at every level through the top 50 WTA. Clemmons was coach to Lilia Osterloh during her rise from No. 97 WTA into the top 50, as well as coaching other players in the WTA.

Clemmons also coached two junior girls to the USTA Gold Ball National Championship. As an academy coach, he helped in the development of six players who went on to careers in the top 150 of the WTA. In 2012, Clemmons was invited and coached in five USTA regional training camps.

Clemmons played Division I tennis for four year, lettering three years at Jacksonville (1994-97) before playing his senior season at Georgia Tech where he graduated in 1999.
