QB Bell To Transfer to GSU

ATLANTA-Former Ohio University quarterback Ronnie Bell, a Georgia prep star at Fayetteville's Sandy Creek High School, intends to transfer to Georgia State, head coach Bill Curry announced.

The 6-0, 175-pound Bell is expected to enroll for Georgia State's summer session in June. He spent the 2011 season as a redshirt at Ohio.

Bell was a two-time, first-team all-state quarterback for coach Chip Walker, leading Sandy Creek to back-to-back state titles in 2009 (Class AAAA) and 2010 (Class AAA). As a senior, he completed 134-of-228 passes for 2,436 yards and 25 touchdowns, and he added 2,003 yards passing as a junior, when he was MVP of the state championship game. Bell compiled a 29-1 record as a starter.

"We are just really pleased to add Ronnie Bell to our team," said Curry. "The best thing I can say about him is that he was 29-1 as a starter and won back-to-back state titles in Georgia high school football. And the one game they lost was his first one."

Bell joins a quarterback position that includes redshirt freshman Ben McLane, who emerged from spring practice as the starter, junior returnee Kelton Hill, who started the final five games of 2011, and incoming freshmen Mark Weidenaar of Evans, Ga., and Nathan Schuster of Summerville, Ga.
