ATLANTA — Five individual victories and a number of new personal records were collected by the Georgia State track and field teams Friday and Saturday at the Yellow Jacket Invitational.
Valentin Poncelet and Hannah Stefanoff both ran personal best times to win the men's and women's 5,000m Friday night. The women's team swept the top four spots as Anna Sinclair, Kacee Houle and Jennifer Rubel finished just behind Stefanoff.
Charlesha Lightbourne picked up another victory in the 200m by running 23:87, the fastest time in the CAA so far in 2012. Lightbourne placed sixth in the 100m dash by running 12.11. Both times were personal bests for the senior.
Tamara Moore won the 100m hurdles with a time of 13:56. Moore also placed fifth in the 400m hurdles, while her teammate Leah Norman was the runner-up in the race with a time of 1:00.53.
After winning the women's 3,000m steeplechase on the same track two weeks ago, Katharine Showalter got another win in the event, this time running a personal best time of 10:51.31. This represents the eighth fastest time in the east region in the event. The Panthers grabbed the top two spots in the steeple as teammate Alison Bishop was the runner-up behind Showalter.
Showalter also ran in the women's 1,500m, placing seventh with a time of 4:32.08. In the men's side of the 1,500m, Chris Harper accounted for another PR by running 3:56.84, good enough for fourth place.
In the field events, Kesean Henderson threw the hammer an even 134 feet Friday night to place third in the event. Carresa Reeves managed a fourth place finish in the shot put, with teammate Sydney Henry coming in sixth.
Twin sisters Tatiana and Talia Colbert finished fifth and sixth respectively in the 400m dash. Both of their times were personal bests and represent the top two times in the conference in the event.
Up next for the track teams is a trip to Oxford, Miss., for the Ole Miss Invite on Sat., April 14.
